I believe everyone knows the meaning of mastery and business but majority of the people are getting confused about strategy. Well, what is strategy? It is the power packed combination of VISION + KNOWLEDGE + LITTLE DIPLOMACY. Why to name it as power packed? When your vision of knowledge is filled with emptiness, the diplomacy should act. Just like conscious and subconscious minds, the conscious is diplomacy and the subconsciousness is vision + knowledge, just a map to keep the subject clear.
I would say it is an artistic activity rather than art. Confused? Yes, art is an artistic activity either but the other activity which supports the actual art is called as artistic activity, it is like an adverb to the verb, adjective to the noun. Now, if the artistic activity is applied to a business, it is called business strategy.
Mastering an art is easy however, the requirement is mastering artistic skills. What is the difference? Mastering an art is specific, mastering artistic skills is generic. Often, having numerous generic skills is the biggest art because it can be applied to any domain, any department, any location, and any subject. This is what master the art of business strategy.
Consequently, take your generic skills out to apply them as strategy. How to have numerous generic skills? These skills are getting developed based on experience. Let me map again Knowledge + experience = strategy – the sub formula of the main formula. Understand the subject and experience the subject.
For instance, Let me take this article as an example, my strategy is to convince the intellectuals. So, I am attempting to connect the topics which are already known to them. So, mapping in a right way to come out as a formula is my strategy here. It is based on my vision+ knowledge + little diplomacy. My subject here is letting you know the strategy of business strategy. If you ask me about strategy at home, it is different š
Four parameters are important to prepare a strategy ‘What is for me’ and ‘what is for you’, ‘how much is for me’ and ‘how much is for you’?
One more example, airlines is running in lose, how to get them into profits? Design a strategy. How to start the analysis? Use your experience as an employee or a passenger, apply your knowledge with vision and add the diplomacy on top of it.
- What are the resources needed to run the airlines — Aircraft, Pilots, fuel, hosting staff, support and signaling staff
- What is for airlines — Business should run in profits.
- What is for a passenger — How cheap the ticket
- How much is for airlines — based on the profit margins
- How much is for passenger — The difference between air fare and car fare or train fare.
Here is the time to apply your artistic skills.
How to minimize cost on the resources? Minimizing is the cost on human resource is the least priority.
The next option is fuel: 1. Come up with a strategy to cover maximum destinations with minimum fuel 2. How to reduce the fuel price? find out all the possibilities.
The next option is aircraft: 1. Negotiate the deal with aircraft manufacturers 2. Negotiate on volume based pricing 3. Find out a way to help finding the raw material cheaper to manufacture a flight. 4. Negotiate for credit.
The next option is pilot salaries: Demand supply issue, lack of sufficient pilots is costing more for the service providers. Apply government to open more schools to produce more number of pilots. So, the maintenance cost will get reduced drastically. Always remember one thumb rule in any business. The one time investment can be calculated and prepared but the operational cost plays with a businessman. No control over operational cost shrinks the ship.
The next option is the support and signaling: 1. Negotiate with airport authorities to reduce the cost 2. Work out the possibilities to invest in terminal space to reduce the cost. 3. Work out how to park aircrafts on multiple floors.
Other Suggestions
- Standardize the bag size and material for check-in and cabin across the globe so few seats can be increased.
- Perhaps, liquor can be limited to wine across the globe.
- Airlines can associate to establish a common service center for aircraft maintenance and service in each city.
- Instead of physical magazines, kindle (Onetime investment) can be attached to all the seats to provide eBooks and eMagazines.
- Associate, promote OTT platform and add the cost into ticket, keep it as optional. The monitor will be with few old movies for those who did not opt the OTT. The seating should be organized while issuing the boarding pass. Share the revenue on OTT.
- Avoid a separate plate to minimize the maintenance cost, instead, food can be served with a sealed polyproline material tray which is disposable.
